camping

Going out with a bang

My friends and I decided to go on a well-deserved girls’ trip through Wisconsin to celebrate the end of the school year before we had to part ways. Of course, I agreed, but I have never been camping before. I wasn’t really worried, but my friends had their concerns (as they should, because I am very accident-prone). Little did I know, this would be one of the best trips ever.

Day 1:

We started driving 4 hours to our first stop at Devil’s Lake. We kind of expected this to be our “ugly stop” because none of us has ever been there and the pictures were all kind of meh. We were so wrong. Before our hike, we decided to stop and look at the water, and we were met with the most gorgeous view of mountains and crystal clear water. After swimming and hiking, we decided to set up camp, and even though we had a little bit of rain and we couldn’t get the fire going, we just laughed it off and made the best of it. As we got ready for bed we were getting texts from our families telling us to look for the northern lights and man oh man did we see them. They covered the entire sky and lasted for hours.

Day 2!

After a surprisingly comfortable night of sleep, we packed up camp and hit the road to our next location, Harrington Beach State Park in SHEBOYGAN. While we waited for our campsite to be ready, we adventured around town and befriended the locals. Once we pulled up to our campsite, we were met with the cutest area with a huge tree in the middle. As we looked around, we realized that this was the only site we could see with a tree. It was so fairytale-like, and we all loved it. We set up our cute tent and then decided to walk to the beach and do some hikes. After making dinner over the fire, we went back to the beach and watched the sunset while just enjoying each other.

Day 3:

We spent the morning at Harrington Beach State Park and cooked breakfast. We got coffee at this cute shop and played games while talking about our plans for the day. We decided to get kites and sand castle supplies, and we decided to spend the day at the beach and dive into Lake Michigan. At this point, we were masters at putting up and taking down our tent, so after our beach day, we headed to our next location: Door County!

Night 3 & Day 4&5:

Once driving up to Door County, we ventured around the town before it started raining. We decided to pull over once the rain subsided and saw the most stunning sunset ever. We spent the next day hiking, climbing rocks, and exploring Door County. We happened to be there during the time when wildflowers start to bloom, so on day 5, we saw hundreds of forget-me-nots that lined the trail. Door County is known for its cherries, so we went to a farmers market and saw some gorgeous cherry trees.

Day 6: Last day:(

After spending the day in Door County we headed back to Sheboygan to the sand dunes. On the way there we stopped in Milwaukee to have breakfast with Mel’s sister, then got dinner with my mom. After dinner we watched the sunset and had fun running up and down the dunes then ran into a little hiccup while setting up camp which lead to a raccoon hanging around and stealing food. We spent the night around the campfire and talked before hitting the hay and heading home.
